Lookin’ at ya bits: Daniel Jack Off

May 30, 2012 at 8:32 am

What happens when two players in the same city end up with identical Eighth Inch Scrambler frame and forks?  You get GOALHOLE  to decide who has the best set-up with a Daniel Jack Off!

Owners:  Daniel Strout and Jack Golding

City:  Sydney, Australia

Frame/Fork:  Eighth Inch Scrambler

Just to mix it up a bit, the rest of the usual stuff about parts and crap is at the bottom this week.  Let’s start with the good stuff!

Why did you choose this bike?
Daniel:   Under recommendation from Brook as well as the “cheapness” factor.
Jack:  Daniel got sent two cause he didn’t receive his stickers and emailed them and something got mixed up and he got sent another frame.

How long have you played on this bike for?  Have you played on anything else?
Daniel:  1 month. I originally played on an old Apollo that I converted to single-speed, then used a shitty Mojo frame then back to the Apollo for nationals.
Jack: 2 weeks and had been playing on my old faithful for the last 8 or so months before it snapped on me.

What are the best things about your bike?
Daniel:  Decent “track-ish” geometry and a decent wheel-base.  Riding fixed on this frame is easy as it is much lighter than my old Apollo.
Jack:  It’s a 55 which is smallish for me and I like being closer to the ground and the fact that I got it for $130.

What are the worst things about your bike? What would you change?
Daniel:  The steerer tube was pre-cut super short so I can’t really get the bars at the perfect height as of yet.  Apart from that, nothing.
Jack:  The fact that it’s the same as Daniel’s clone.

Daniel, why is your bike better than Jack’s?
Because I paid full price for mine and he jipped me $5

Jack, why is your bike better than Daniel’s?
Well I’m better than Daniel so therefore so is my bike.  He always tells me that his bike is better and that hurts my feelings.  Today he was wearing a vest.  I thought I would just mention that.

Bars:  Daniel – Ebay special  /  Jack – Generic risers

Seat/Post:  Eighth Inch

Pedals:  Daniel – SPDs  /  Jack – Atom Lab with Skin Grows Back straps

Cranks:  Daniel – Ebay special 170mm w/ 34T chain ring  /  Jack – Unknown

Sprocket:  Daniel – Surly 19T fixed  /  Jack – Unknown

Brakes:  Daniel – Rear Tectro R580  /  Jack – Shimano 105

Front Wheel/Tyre:  Daniel – Halo Aero Rage Track w/ 25c no name tyre  /  Jack – Alex rims

Rear Wheel/Tyre:  Daniel – Halo Aero Rage Track w/ 25c Gatorskin  /  Jack – Alex rims

So who has the best bike?  Apart from Daniel and Jack, who really cares?  I declare polo the winner.

Player Profile #19 – Jack Golding

According to Le Coq Sportif, Jack gave up his horse for a bike.  Sadly, after this interview was recorded, Jack’s bike suffered a fatal injury.. maybe he would have been better off keeping the horse.  I am very proud to say that Jack has taken up the almost forgotten Sydney tactic of mallet tossing to block the goal.  If we both keep doing this, surely they’ll have to make it legal again. Here’s a little more about Jack.

City:  Sydney, Australia

Team:  The Unapologetics

Years played:  6 months

Super power:  The Sydney Mallet Toss

Favourite heckle:  PPPEEENNNIIISSS (when someone is about to shoot)

Bike:  Gemini frame, freewheel with dual brake and 32:16 ratio

Mallet:  Ski polo with generic uncapped head with side cut outs

Protection:  None

What do you love most about bike polo?
Being able to beat the shit out of each other in a lovely environment.
